Celebrities For Good
Let's put Hollywood's global cultural influence to work by tracking the lifestyles and activities of green celebrities and celebrities who help to solve social problems. An articlein Grist magazine (14 Apr 2005) describes the kind of things green celebrities are doing. And the Environmental Media Association gives awards to the celebs (and shows and movies) that have the biggest impact. So list your favorite celebrity below and add some information about how they are helping to save the planet and their fellow sentient beings.
Kevin Bacon
Sixdegrees.org is a take off on the six degrees from Kevin Bacon thing. Cool idea, well executed.
Bono
Bono was nominated for a 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. The One Campaign, which Bono helped to jump start, is a major effort to boost U.S. funding in support of the Millennium Development Goals. Giving ONE percent more of the US federal budget would help save millions of lives. There is a LOT of star power behind this campaign.

Paul Newman
Paul Newman founded the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut, for gravely ill children. There are now eight affiliated camps. "When we started the camp we had no idea of the profound impact these camps would have on these kids," Newman said at a news conference.
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt has teamed up with Global Green USA to sponsor a design competition to provide an opportunity for talented architects, urban planners, designers, ecologists and students to put forward a creative and implementable vision for the reconstruction of a New Orleans neighborhood including a multi-use community center and multi-family housing." Excellent idea!
Robert Redford
Is an advocate for the Appollo Alliance for energy independence, clean energy and american jobs. He also works with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
Christopher Reeve
Christopher Reeve, the actor best known for playing super man, became a quadriplegic in a horse back riding accident and formed a foundation that funds research into cures for spinal cord injuries.
William Shatner
William Shatner, best known as Captain Kirk from Star Trek and Denny Crane from Boston Legal television series, is involved with a therapeutic riding program which helps children from Israel, Jordan, Palestine and other areas. And for sixteen years he has been involved with the Annual Hollywood Charity Horse Show.
Gary Sinise
Operation Iraqi Children is a charity co-founded by Gary Sinise. It's mission is to "enable Americans to send School Supply Kits to Iraqi children."
My Good Deed also has Gary's support. This charity wants to make September 11 a national day of volunteerism to honor victims of the terrorist attacks.
Sting
Is a long standing supporter of sustainably harvested wood.
Neil Young
Neil Young was named "Influencer of the Year" by the National Biodiesel Board. Willie Nelson has also received the award.
